Anne of Green Gables
Lucy Maud Montgomery
Read by LibriVox Volunteers
Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic children’s novel, Anne of Green Gables tells the story of a red headed orphan girl with a personality you can’t help but love. Despite her “tragical” past, Anne’s optimism and imagination have helped her to always see the best in things. Anne’s life changes considerably when she is accidentally adopted by the Cuthberts, a brother and sister who thought they were getting a boy to help out on the farm. The Cuthberts decide Anne will have to be sent back to the orphange but before they know it, she has begun to work her way into their hearts. (Summary by Annie Coleman) (10 hr 30 min)

I ha e loved these books forever and was dying to read them again. but being a mom of two I have very lil time for reading if any at all so I was soooooo happy to find these here brought to life by fellow lovers of such stories

I loved this book as a child and was excited to listen as an adult. Some of the readers I liked but others not so much. One reader gave the characters some funny accents that didn't fit the setting. Also there were quite a few mispronounced words, "elliquit" instead of "etiquette", etc. I would try a different version as there are many for this title.

This is the original Librivox recording of Anne of Green Gables. It was completed in 2006 and is done as a collaborative project. All of the sections are well done and the listener will hear readings by several pillars of the Librivox community, including Kara Schallenberg, Betsy Bush and Annie Coleman. As of August 2010, Librivox has 5 different versions of Anne of Green Gables, including solo projects by Rachelellen (version 2 at http://www.archive.org/details/anne_of_green_gables_2_librivox), Karen Savage (version 3 at http://www.archive.org/details/anne_green_gables_librivox) and Annie Coleman (version 4 at http://www.archive.org/details/anne_gables_0808). Version 5 is another group project completed in 2009. So there are plenty of listening options to this wonderful coming of age tale!

I've read this series myself but to have them so raptly read is a terrible delight. Thank you to Libravox and to the volunteers for providing this experience..

I have loved this book for a long time, and was glad to find it on librivox. most of the readers were awesome. Unfortunately, Annie Marlo decided that Marilla always speaks in a sarcastic tone, and Anne herself speaks in run on sentences without taking a breath, very fast. I know there was punctuation in the original book.
