Fascinating culture; Good reader

(5 stars)

An early work on Japan, Hearn's impressions have a sense of freshness and novelty, compared with his more interpretive later writings. The emphasis on the Izumo region also stands out. The reader is especially good with the many Japanese names.

Beautiful reading, sentimental and interesting tale
