Reviews

A story of a first year of small farm life, well read.

(4 stars)

Far before the Back to the Earth movements of current years, this story details the story of a NYC family of five who took over the running of an orchard and small farm in New England. A truly sustainable method of farming. effort. horse power was by horse, food from garden or local market, milk from a cow and meat and eggs from hundreds of chickens. The herculean task of planting, weeding, pruning and planning is well described. Not included was the women's work of milking, separating cream and milk, making butter, sewing clothes, repairing farm

Great book provides a fascinating insight to life in the 1880s
