The Crossing
Winston Churchill
Read by Bob R
This is an historical fiction novel. Many real characters of history are included, as well as fictitious ones. The saga takes place in the period slightly before the American Revolution, and extends for some years after that war. It covers the first movement of southern colonists, over the mountains, into Kentucky, then into the lands that would become Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. The battles to take these lands from the British make up much of the drama. The characters also move into New Orleans to face off with the French.
This was a major best selling novel when released. The writer, Winston Churchill, was a most prominent American novelist of the time. The Prime Minister of England, Winston S. Churchill, was his contemporary, but no family relation. This book contains content that some listeners might find offensive. (Summary by Bob Rollins) (22 hr 41 min)

Excellent reading of a very well written historical novel
Joyce
This book is very informative. I'm sending a 1908 edition of the book to my son for him to read to his children. But I highly recommend listening to this reading of it. Thank you to reader and to LibriVox.org.
Absolutely Superb

Winston Churchill (the American. Not the British statesman.) is a superb author. One of my favorites. His historical accuracy is superb, and he accurately reflects the times and places his fictional characters are set in. all of his characters are compelling, The reader here does an excellent job with the exception that his pronunciation of anything differing remotely from American English (i.e. French, Spanish, Native American names, etc) is positively atrocious.

This book covers a lot of history, from early settlements into Kentucky and the Revolutionary War to the aquisition of Louisiana. The reader doesn't let you down. It's is a huge story. I give it only four stars because there are slow parts that might entice you to go looking for something else, but in the end it's worth the endurance.

The book is long but fascinating & well worth listening....but the narrator's knowledge of French os abysmal! His pronouncation is painful!. Mind you his Spanish is only marginally better. Sad to spoil such an interesting book.
