Imperial law enforcer Amaranthe Lokdon is good at her job: she can deter thieves and pacify thugs, if not with a blade, then by toppling an eight-foot pile of coffee canisters onto their heads.

But when ravaged bodies show up on the waterfront, an arson covers up human sacrifices, and a powerful business coalition plots to kill the emperor, she feels a tad overwhelmed.

Worse, Sicarius, the empire's most notorious assassin, is in town. He's tied in with the chaos somehow, but Amaranthe would be a fool to cross his path. Unfortunately, her superiors order her to hunt him down.

Either they have an unprecedented belief in her skills... or someone wants her dead.

Pleasantly surprised. I guess sometimes it's nice to enjoy an old fashioned story with action and thrills, loveable heroes and dastardly villains. Written with an ease and well very read. Robin hood anyone?

really cool story! loving it! up to episode 18...

A fantasy adventure well worth listening

(3 stars)

A fantasy adventure that kept me interested, even if it didn't bring much new to the genre. Characters were intriguing and mostly believable, rounded people. The plot, at times, felt a little illogical to me, but mostly the action kept the story moving along nicely. The reading was also mostly pleasant to listen to, even though sometimes the overly sarcastic tones annoyed me a bit.

sword fighting detective conspiracy sting.

(4.5 stars)

I liked it a lot: Very well written; exciting with a good sense of humour. Fast paced but easy to follow. Reading is almost as good; few mispronunciations. Recording is good too; one suggestion: Use echo effect on the sarcastic thoughts to set them apart from the spoken answers to questions.

decent story, well-read

(3.5 stars)

At first I didn’t warm to the story but it definitely improves once it gets going and has a decent ending that sets up the story for the next chapter. I will download and listen to the next book in the series, Which suggests that this book is worth a listen.

Good narration, engaging story

(5 stars)

The story kept me interested from first to last. So much so that I was occasionally late for things because I wanted to hear just a little bit more of the story! The narrator was good, too. She was very expressive and gave the different characters different tones.

A roller-coaster!

It has been a really long time since I was so surprised at a plot! I could not figure out how it would continue and was always left on my toes for the next chapter. 5 stars!

A great story well read.

This is the first of three tales. Definitely worth a listen. I wish Librivox had the option to donate to authors and readers. Thank you for hours of entertainment.
