The genius of JG Ballard

(5 stars)

I was a spotty pre-teen when I first read Ballard. Bought a box-set of The Drought, The Drowned World, The Wind from Nowhere and a collection of short stories including The Terminal Beach. First time I realized that other worlds were possible to imagine. These are top quality productions of his short stories, and convey the eerie prophecy of his work. A great introduction to one of the finest storytellers of his generation. You will not be disappointed.

All pretty good episodes

Favorite is Low-Flying Aircraft, with its pre-Children of Men dystopian theme, which also plays into the current Zika crisis in South America. A near-future couple anxiously awaits the birth of their latest child at an abandoned resort in Spain, anxious because previous tries (like other mothers worldwide) have been born deformed. A doctor who lives nearby tries to give them hope. Has an eerie dream / nightmare quality to it.
