The "Crooked Hero" and "Movie Script" file names are reversed. This is not just a linking error -- the MP3 files have the wrong names. I wish whoever uploaded these files had provided some information about where they came from, so that the error could be corrected at the source. Other possible errors: The March episode sounds like either a rehearsal or a broadcast without an audience, not an audition -- which some logs list as having been the previous December. And the last June episode is dated for a different day of the week than the others. For some newspaper listing research, see http://www.digitaldeliftp.com/DigitalDeliToo/dd2jb-Shorty-Bell.html I like the show despite its shifts in focus and cliches -- but I'm a sucker for anything that shows spunky youngsters trying to get a job on a newspaper (in the audition/premiere) and facing complex ethical problems (the "Crooked Hero" and "Photographer" episodes). Nobody did "spunk" like Mickey Rooney! (I'm researching radio portrayals of journalists at http://jheroes.com)

NEED MORE SHORTY BELLs!

(5 stars)

This is one of those radio shows that was so well written and so well acted that it is truly a shame that there are not more out there. Just listen to the sound effects and you can tell how well produced this one is. In the last episode, we hear Shorty tell the audience that he is going on his suspension but to listen for more shows in the experimental Mickey Rooney Theater. I think this one should have been picked up. So there aren't many more shows out there. Let's find them!

Shorty Bell: Cub Reporter

It's called Shorty Bell because Rooney was short and shaped like a bell.
