Read by Maurice Tarplin

(4.5 stars; 66 reviews)

The Strange Dr. Weird was a captivating radio program broadcast on Mutual from 1944 to 1945. Sponsored by Adam Hats, this drama is notable for its connection to The Mysterious Traveler, sharing both a similar theme and its eerie narrator, Maurice Tarplin, who lent his voice to both series.

Each episode, introduced by the spooky Tarplin, invited listeners into the chilling world of Dr. Weird. With a signature closing line that promised future visits, the show left an indelible mark on its audience. The series featured 29 episodes, produced and directed by Jock MacGregor, with many scripts adapted from The Mysterious Traveler.

Loved these

There should be sooo many more of these, why do we keep crap on t.v. for too many years yet give up on stuff like this!?! Bring 'em back!

Good but short

(4.5 stars)

these are all good stories and Dr. wired does make it funny but they are only 10-15 minutes long. would have preferred them to be longer but I still enjoyed them

mistitlled episode & false information

The_White_Pearls_of_Freedom should be White Pearls of Terror ------------------------------------------------ The closing line never changed: "Perhaps you'll drop in on me again soon? I'm always home. Just look for the house on the other side of the cemetery...the house of Dr. Weird!" "I'm always home" is missing from several episodes, including The Tiger Cat, The Dark Wings of Death. Murder Will Out, and Voices of Death -------------------------------------------------- The opening also changes. As an example: "You look pale" NOT "nervous" in The Man Who Knew Everything or "Your hand's shaking" in The Ghost Ship

Here are a few more mislabelled episodes

Episode 4 (44-11-28) Death in the Everglades is really Episode 5 Murder Comes Home (44-12-05) and Episode 5 Murder Comes Home (44-12-05) is really Death in the Everglades (44-11-28) Episode 28 Picture of a Killer (45-05-15) is really Episode 29 Revenge from the Grave (45-05-22) Picture of a Killer is available at: https://archive.org/details/TheStrangeDoctorWeird (They have it dated May 8 though)

Incorrectly Named Episodes

(4 stars)

Episode 28 'Picture Of A Killer" is actually "Revenge From The Grave" Episode 29, labeled "Revenge from the Grave" is actually a duplicate of episode 27, "Murder, One Million BC". Picture Of A Killer can be found here https://archive.org/details/TheStrangeDoctorWeird It looks like these sites copy from one another, and when they do they copy the error and do not correct it.

Fun little snippets

(4 stars)

These are a lot of fun and short enough for a quick fix. The last-listed episode is really another recording of Murder, One Million BC.

This is another excellent series of shows from the imagination-rich early years of theatre of the mind... Great stories, strong acting and fun for the mind.
