"The Best Quiz Show On The Air"
AncientAxim
Public sends letters to show to see if the celebrity guests can answer their tough quiz questions. The questions are pretty hard, but the guests amaze and entertain us with their brilliant answers and witty repartee. Oscar Levant not only will answer which monarch was married to whom, but also what year and how they were related to someone else, and he among other guests easily spout of innumerable quotations and poetry on a whim. One could get a lot of entertainment from today's celebrities trying to answer the same questions as these had, but they probably could not even pronounce the names let alone answer the questions. I am on an Information Please kick lately and been listening to them all month. They are very interesting and the few and far between issues with audio do not detract from the program, its bound to happen with old recordings, some gotten second hand, I just appreciate the fact they were uploaded in the first place.
oscar levant, and Rubinstein

are so smart, I love to listen to those two! I wish Oscar Levant was still alive I would marry him in an instant :) You guys ought to check this show out. It will make you feel so unworthy and unsophisticated comparing how much they know as opposed to how little we know as citizens today. Rubinstein has a fascinating hobby of studying the genealogy of European royalty and aced a quiz asking who is related to whom- he knew them all, from Frederick to all the grandchildren royals of Victoria. The audio is just fine, there is one episode the bandwidth seemed awful narrow so it was difficult to make out some of the words but still worth listening to for sure. I give it five stars, for the quality and for the content too. It's a pretty fun show and I love the prizes: $50. in War Bonds and yes they do give away complete Encyclopedia Britannica sets (the same set I had as a kid growing up) anyway thanks to the uploader these are SO appreciated on the archive! I can't get enough of these shows.
Wonderful Shows from Best Days of Radio

Closest to these shows is an NPR weekend show. None such on mainstream--or actually sewersteam-- radio today. So I say CHEERS to Archive.org for preserving the past. Audio quality is pretty good so far on #3 of 3 sets of shows.
