Good values are as important today as they were In the Great Depression . This show has a simple format. The story line is simple with a bit of community sibling rivalry between two older men with a lifetime friendship. The bantering back and forth between Eli and his wife Jenny is as real as an old married couple today. There is romance between a young couple and an older bachelor and a widow who would like to become his wife. The show always ends with a meditation about the theme of the show , which is promoting some life principal. This is a good show for young children, young adults and young elderly.

I absolutely love this show. A great combination of lovely choral music and old-fashioned small-town values - the characters feel so real, and the shows take you back to a time when so many qualities that we have more or less forgotten today were still prevalent. Wish there were more episodes! ALSO: If you want to hear more episodes, go here: https://archive.org/details/OTRR_Down_Our_Way_Singles

If you like old-fashioned music, hymns and English ballads, these are just about the best performances available. I wish the performers had been identified; would love to hear more from them! Incidentally, the date is more likely around 1946 than the '30s. In one episode they're discussing something that happened in 1931, which was "fifteen years ago."
Gee this is "corn" to the extreme.

I enjoy older programs. This program is so lame, and tries so hard to be "down home style" that it makes one wince with embarrassment. At first I thought it was satire, or some weird attempt at humor. No. It STINKS
